Mary Elaine Somers 1960–2024

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Elaine, mother, wife, sister, aunt and above all, best of friends on June 6th 2024, at the age of 64. 

Elaine was the adored wife of Christian Rousseau, the treasured mother of Camille (Jared), the generous and loving belle-mère of Pascale, Andréa and Frédérick (Emie) and the cherished granny to Mathias, Margaux and Tristan. Daughter of the late Nora Ryan-Somers and of the late Earl Somers she was predeceased by her brothers, Harold and Glenn and is survived by her siblings, Danny (Lynne), Mary Jean (Steve) and fourteen nieces and nephews. As well, Elaine leaves behind her uncle, Wilbert Somers, her aunt, Eleanor McDonough, cousins, and many wonderful and caring friends.

Combining selflessness, humility and hard work, Elaine was a beautiful person in every way. Though she travelled the world, in her heart there was no place like home, where she enjoyed the company of family and friends. Proud to be a nurse, through her work and volunteering, she made the world a better place for all, but particularly for those who needed help the most, be they patients, injured soldiers or orphans on the Mount of Olives. Elaine was a blessing to all those who had the good fortune of knowing her. She will be dearly missed.

Friends may pay their respects at the Cadieux Tubman Funeral Home, located at 322 Avenue de Buckingham, Gatineau, Que., on Friday, June 14, 2024, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and on Saturday, June 15, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 a.m., at St. Malachy Catholic Church, Mayo Que. Interment will take place at St. Malachy’s Cemetery, immediately after the funeral service. All are welcome.

A reception will follow the interment at the Hill and Gully Riders Snowmobile Club, Clubhouse, 149 Ch d’ Inlet, Mulgrave-et-Derry Que. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society in memory of Elaine, would be appreciated.
