Dr Jacques Grégoire  ( 1941 - 2023 )

 

On January 3rd, 2023, at the age of 81, Dr Jacques Gregoire passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and loved ones at the Hôtel-Dieu hospital in Sherbrooke, Quebec. He was the son of the late Ernest Gregoire and the late Lucienne Couture.

 

Practicing ophthalmologist of 50 years, he retired a year prior after working at Hôtel-Dieu hospital for the majority of his career.  He was a pioneer in the fields of corneal diseases as well as eye and refractive surgery. He was the co-founder of the Nancy Desharnais eye bank and founder of the refractive surgery ophthalmology clinic, Clinique Vision Gregoire

 

Dr Grégoire leaves behind his wife of  60 years, Louise Fortin, his sons Alain (Manon), Simon and François (Simran); his grandchildren Philippe-Olivier, Charles-Anthony, Emmy, Alexandra, Sophie, and Sage.  His brothers and sisters  Lucie (Jean-Claude), Claire, Luc, France (Réjean), Jules (Louise), Renée (André), Madeleine (Pierre), the late Lise (Marcel).

 

Also deeply touched by his departure is his brother-in-law Marc Fortin (Lorraine), as well as his Tousignant family Diane, Raymond (Lise), Réjean (Lise), Renaud, Réal, Chantal (Michel), his goddaughter Geneviève, several cousins, nieces and nephews, friends, and former colleagues.

 

A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 20, 2023, at the Steve L. Elkas Funeral Complex (4230 Bertrand-Fabi Street, Sherbrooke) from 1:00 to 5:00 pm and from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.   On Saturday, January 21, 2023, the family again will be present starting at 10:00 a.m. at St. Boniface Church (75 Morris Street, Sherbrooke). The religious ceremony presided by Father Alain Larochelle will begin at 12:00 p.m.

 

The family would like to thank all the medical and nursing staff as well as all the following organizations for their support: The Department of Hematology and transfusions (Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de  Sherbrooke-CHUS), La Rose des Vents foundation, Héma Québec blood bank, as well as the Palliative Care Unit at the Hôtel-Dieu.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Department of Hematology

(via the CHUS Foundation) or to the Foundation La Rose des Vents de Sherbrooke via their website.
