CAMPBELL PEARSE, Wendy

2011

Pointe-Claire

1931-2011

Peacefully at Lakeshore General in Pte. Claire on Wednesday, June 1st, 2001. Survived by her beloved husband George Gate of Pte. Claire, and her children in B.C. Jim, Norman (Jude), Leslie, and Richard (Claude). Wendy is also mourned by her extended Gate, Campbell, and Pearse families, as well as many friends and colleagues. In particular, she will be missed by the Pte. Claire Aquatic Centre community. Wendy, 6th of 7 children, was born and raised on a farm in Vernon, B.C. and graduated from high school in Kamloops. She studied education and special education in Victoria and Vancouver before moving to Montreal She cared deeply about children and their well-being, developing the Aqua Percept and Movement Ed programs at the Pte. Claire Aquatic Centre. After retirement, she volunteered at 'the little red schoolhouse' in St. Telesphore.

Wendy was a vivacious and generous hostess, opening her heart and her home to friends and relatives. She was both artistic and musical (as a young woman she played the cello with the Victoria Symphony). She earned a Montreal's Citizen of the Year award during the 1980s, in recognition of her work with children with disabilities. She had a wonderful sense of humour, and in later life enjoyed reminiscing about her early years on the BX Ranch in Vernon, in Ocean Falls, and at 'the pool.'

The service will be held at Rideau Funeral Home, 4275 Sources, DDO, (514) 685-3344 on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at 2 pm, with a reception following at The French Canadian House, 152 Concord Crescent, Pte. Claire, at 4 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Montreal Children Hospital Foundation.
