BAIRD, Valerie Jayne

1952 - 2021

St-Polycarpe

Valerie Jayne Baird passed away peacefully on March 22, 2021, at the age of 68, from lung cancer. In her final days and hours she was lovingly surrounded by her immediate family in the comfort of her home.

Jayne will be dearly missed by her devoted and caring partner of 27 years, George. She leaves behind her daughter Dawn (Anthony), son Mark (Monica) and grandchildren Chaz and Devon as well as her sister Anne (Dave) and nephew Wayne (Maxene) and their children in England. Also left grieving are inlaws Gordon (Janet), Laurie and Tracey (Doug).

Jayne was born in Burbage, England. Her adventurous spirit brought her to Montreal in 1974 where she started a family. She was a caring and devoted mum to Dawn and Mark. With her brown eyes sparkling, Jayne always loved to have a good laugh. She had a kind heart, warm spirit and would tell you the truth (even when it wasn't what you wanted to hear). She was a hard worker and when she set her mind to something, there was no stopping her. Jayne will be remembered by many during her working years as a cafeteria lady at MacDonald High School where she also doubled as a "secret spy" to Mark and Dawn during their high school years-- not much could get by Jayne!

Those who knew her will confirm she was a master crafter; the sewing machine was often buzzing, or she could be found knitting beautiful nordic sweaters, crocheting or you might hear her shouting out the odd curse word when burning her fingers on the hot glue gun. She also had a gift of giving new life to antiques. If you didn't know where Jayne was, you didn't need to look far, just wander around the garden and you would find her. She had a green thumb and her gardens were always stunning. Jayne was a huge animal lover with an especially deep love of horses. She rode as a young girl and delighted in providing a retirement home for her horse, Furloin, for many years.

There will be no formal ceremony, however while we mourn the loss of Jayne and the big hole she has left in our hearts, we ask you to please raise a glass and say a toast to honour this wonderful woman.
