PINNELL Stanley
1923-2020
MAGNUS POIRIER INC.It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Stanley E. A. Pinnell on April 8, 2020 at Le Herron senior’s residence in Dorval.

Stan was born in Winnipeg to Rose May and Richard Charles Pinnell.  In 1935 the family moved to Manitoba where Stan and his brothers had a humble upbringing on the family farm near Warren.

Although he spent most of his adult years in Montreal, he never left the farm at heart. He was a keen storyteller, and loved to share many stories including those about his brothers and the many antics they participated in.

He graduated from the University of Manitoba (Mathematical Physics) and pursued graduate studies at the University of Alberta (Msc.) and the University of Minnesota.  He was a seasonal lecturer in physics then later moved to Montreal where he worked for RCA Victor and married his wife Stella in 1952.

In 1955, he co-founded Pylon Electronics with his brother John Edward, and dear friend Herbert Laks. In later years, Stan owned VHF Electronics.  As a senior citizen, he was lured out of retirement to work as a consultant for MPB Technologies.

He was a great part of Canadian history as he pioneered many innovations and patents that had a major effect on all Canadians.  He was truly an unsung hero and a very modest man.  He always looked out for the underdog.  He had special way of taking something that was very complicated and translating it to a level that all could understand. We remember his humour, kindness and unfailing generosity, his incredible memory, his ability to translate Latin, recite poetry or to do the hardest acrostic crosswords.

Stan is lovingly remembered by his daughters Moira (m. Duane) and Fiona (m. Matt), foster-daughter Laurie (m. Pat) and foster-son Lance (m. Wen), and grandchildren
