REDFEARN (SWALLOW), Shirley

Passed away on September 9th with her family by her side. Daughter of the late Gordon & Dorothy Swallow and sister of Tom Swallow, Shirley took great pride in the family she nurtured with her husband Douglas Redfearn (deceased 1995). Brenda (Mark) gave her Colin and Valerie; Cheryl (Michael) had two daughters of their own: Rose and Meaghan; Jodie-Dee (Brian) raised the masculine presence with Bryan and Joseph; and Heather (Donnie) completed the generation of grandchildren with Autumn and Connor. Meaghan blessed Shirley with a great-granddaughter with the arrival of Mercedes. Shirley was also very proud of the family she embraced when she married Frank Straub (deceased 2009) and welcomed his children: Erika, Frank (Jane) and Vicki (Ray) as well as their children and grandchildren.
Past Girl Guide leader and the original daycare lady, aka “Mrs. Red” at Thorndale School, Shirley inspired countless children and their families. She had many friends who she cherished and to whom she gave the best of herself. All those who knew her admired her strength, generosity and of course, her amazing fashion sense.
The family will receive visitors on September 11th from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Rideau Funeral Home, 4275 boul. Des Sources, DDO, 514-685-3344. The funeral service will be held in the chapel on September 12th at 11 a.m. Donations can be made to the West Island Palliative Care Residence.
