RIGANTE Sergio
1937-2022
MAGNUS POIRIER INC.It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Sergio Rigante on September 8th, 2022 at the age of 85 years old.
Sergio is predeceased by his wife Rosa DeFeudis, to whom he was married to for 62 years and by his son Ezio Rigante (Rola).  He is survived by his children Domenic Rigante (Antonietta Cella), Mario Rigante (Vincy Tufano) and Tonia (Maria) Rigante (Bruno Sollazzo).    He was most proud of his 10 grandchildren (Alexander, Samantha, Juliana, Jonathan, Lauren, Jason, Christopher, Gabriella, Nicolas, Leyla). He is also survived by his sisters Maria (Domenico) and Lucrezia.

Our beloved dad immigrated to Canada in 1956 with a couple of dollars in his pocket to build the best possible life for his future family.  He worked several jobs at a time so that he can then wed the love of his life in 1960, and quickly began a family of 4 children.   After a multitude of jobs, he eventually landed a career in men’s suits, evolving from presser to director of operations for the syndicate.  He later satisfied his desire for entrepreneurship owning and operating a store.  He had a flair for bringing people together, mobilizing and unifying.  He founded cultural foundations, was a member of their executive boards, organized cultural and historical missions to his beloved region of Puglia, raised funds for student bursaries, created and organized countless parties to raise funds for his favorite causes, was president of a bowling league for decades and invested much of his time encouraging youth around him to get involved in their communities and learn, maintain and be proud of their Italian heritage.  Anyone who crossed his path knew of his love affair with telling stories.   He particularly loved summertime where he could live his passion for agriculture.  He was happiest toiling the earth and making a massive garden which his children were so happy to help with - NOT, including fruit trees, grape vines, and fig trees.  Harvesting time felt and looked like a farmer’s market, much to the happiness of neighbours,  family and friends who got to share the “fruits” of his passion.   His home was always open to family and friends and was most often the gathering place during Holidays and any occasion to share his homemade wine.  We are saddened and heartbroken by his passing, yet we take solace knowing he is happily reunited with his son, Ezio, and wife Rosa, whom he spoke of and told stories every day since her passing.  He will be eternally remembered in our hearts which are extremely rich in memories, stories, traditions, and values.
Visitation will be held at Magnus Poirier Funeral Complex, 10300 Pie IX Blvd. on Tuesday, September 13th, 2022 from 2:00 to 5:00 and from 6:15 to 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 8:00 pm at the Chapel of the Complex.
