It is with great sadness that the family of Salvatore Scalia announce his peaceful passing on the 27th of May, 2017 at the age of 57 years. He left us as beautifully as he lived, with the sun shining upon him and the imprint of a smile on his face. His humility, compassion and sense of humour will live on through his devoted wife Mary, his children Pasquale and Francesca, his mother Giovanna, his sisters Angela (Dominic) and Anna (Jess), his mother-in-law Maria, his brother-in-law Giovanni (Sandy), Vanessa and Francesco, among his many nieces and nephews, many relatives and dear friends, including George and Gaby. His presence will always linger and his spirit watches down on us, urging us to remember him with tenderness and not with sadness.
He was a man who went by many names; Sam, Toto, Babe, Daddy, Bruce, Brother, Uncle, and he was constantly surrounded by his loving family. He fought a courageous battle with cancer for five years and had hope until the very end. Everything can be taken from a man but one thing; the last of the human freedoms – to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way. Sam chose to live a joyful and full life, to overcome the obstacles of his illness with few complaints despite everything he endured. We are grateful for his sacrifice and for the joy he has brought to us. We can only try to live in his memory.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, May 31st, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. at Magnus Poirier on 6825 Sherbrooke Street East and services at Mont Carmel Parish at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 1st. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Colorectal Cancer Association of Canada in his memory.
