Passed away peacefully at the age of 85, in Montreal on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at the Jewish General Hospital. Born March 6, 1929 in Troina, Sicily, was the seventh of eight children.
Salvatore worked as a cabinet maker since the age of 14. He met his beautiful bride Maria Teresa Calandra, they married in 1951 in Troina, Sicily, where three of their four children were born.
Longing for a better life, Salvatore immigrated to Canada with his family in 1958. Montreal provided a new home, as well as a fourth child.
Salvatore was a gentle, honest, and hardworking man, who worked his way up to manage Carol Ann Furniture, one of Quebec's largest furniture companies. He was a compassionate man, who always provided a job for anyone in need. No one who wanted to work was turned away. He was loyal and dedicated to his workers, and in turn commanded tremendous respect from them.
Salvatore's legacy was his family who he loved and adored. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Maria Teresa (Calandra), children, Antonino, Joanna (Perry), Agostino (Lynne), and Enrico (Majella). His grandchildren, Salvatore (Rosanna), Melissa (Aaron), Christopher, Rachel, Justin, Matthew, Julien, and Maria-Olivia. Visitations will be held at
Magnus Poirier Funeral Complex, 10300 Pie-IX Blvd, on Thursday, March 27,
from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 10 p.m.
A funeral mass will be held on Friday, March 28, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Pompei Church thence to Laval Cemetery, 5505 Chemin Bas St-François. In lieu of flowers, donation in memory of Salvatore Castellano to the Jewish General Hospital for The Dialysis Unit would be appreciated.
