SCALABRINI, M. Bertrand
1929 - 2021MAgog
Dr. Bertrand Yvon Scalabrini passed away on April 22nd, 2021 in Magog, QC at the age of 92. He was the husband of the late Micheline Guévin and the son of the late Pierre Scalabrini and the late Alma Talbot dit Gervais of Sainte-Edwige, QC.
A highly reputed Cardio-Thoracic surgeon in Québec, Bertrand received his B.A. from the Séminaire Saint-Charles-Borromée in 1949 and his Doctorate in Medicine in 1953 from the Université Laval. In 1960 he and Micheline moved to New York City, where Bertrand continued his surgical training at the New York University Bellevue Medical Centre. Bertrand and Micheline returned to Canada in 1968 where Bertrand practiced Cardiovascular and Thoracic surgery until 2006 at the Saint-Vincent–de-Paul Hospital and the CHUS. Associate professor and Chief of Surgery, Bertrand will be remembered for his dedication to his patients, his extraordinary surgical talents and his availability and the mentorship he offered to his many medical students throughout the years. In 1983 Bertrand was named Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel of the 52nd Ambulance, an honour he was proud of until his last days. Passionate of provincial politics, supporter of the arts and music and a talented golfer, Bertrand certainly left his mark on Sherbrooke and the Townships.
Bertrand leaves in mourning his sons: Frédéric (Catherine Scott) and Mathieu (Priscille Bernard); his grandchildren: Charles-Antoine and Léa; his sister Gervaise (Gaston Goulet) as well as many nephews, nieces other friends and relatives. He was also the brother of the late Lucienne, the late Rita and the late Guy (the late Suzanne Labrecque).
Due to the exceptional circumstances related to the pandemic, a funeral service will be held at a later date.
The family would like to thank the personnel and staff of the CIUSS Memphremagog for the kind and compassionate care given to Dr. Scalabrini during the last years. As a memorial tribute, donations to the Magog Hospital Foundation, 50 St-Patrice East, Magog, QC, J1X 3X3 or the CHUS Foundation, 530 !0th Ave South, Sherbrooke, QC, J1G 2R9, would be appreciated.
À Magog, le 22 avril 2021, est décédée paisiblement à l’âge de 92 ans le docteur Bertrand Yvon Scalabrini. Veuf de Micheline Guévin, il demeurait à Magog et il était le fils de Pierre Scalabrini et d’Alma Talbot dit Gervais de Sainte-Edwige.
Chirurgien cardiovasculaire et thoracique de grande réputation au Québec, Bertrand a obtenu son B.A. du Séminaire Saint-Charles-Borromée en 1949. Il receva son doctorat en médecine en 1959 de l'Université Laval. En 1960 Bertrand et Micheline déménagèrent à New York où Bertrand a poursuivi son entrainement en chirurgie au New York University Bellevue Medical Centre. Bertrand et Micheline sont retournés au Canada en 1968. Bertrand a pratiqué la chirurgie cardiovasculaire et thoracique jusqu'en 2006 à l'Hôpital Saint-Vincent-Paul et au Centre hospitalier universitaire de Sherbrooke. Professeur agrée, chef du département de chirurgie, Bertrand s'est démarqué par son grand dévouement pour ses patients, son talent extraordinaire pour la chirurgie et pour le mentorat qu'il a offert à la multitude de médecins à qui il a enseigné au cours des années. En 1983 Bertrand fut nommé lieutenant-colonel honoraire de la 52e Ambulance de campagne ... un honneur qui l'a marqué jusqu'à la fin de ses jours. Passionné de la politique provinciale, grand supporteur des arts et de la musique et golfeur assidu, Bertrand a certainement laissé sa marque dans la région sherbrookoise.
Bertrand laisse dans le deuil ses enfants: Frédéric (Catherine Scott) et Mathieu (Priscille Bernard); ses petits-enfants: Charles-Antoine et Léa; sa sœur Gervaise (Gaston Goulet), il était également le frère de : feu Lucienne, feu Rita et feu Guy (feu Suzanne Labrecque). Il laisse également dans le deuil plusieurs neveux, nièces, autres parents et amis.
Dû aux circonstances exceptionnelles liées à la pandémie les funérailles seront célébrées à une date ultérieure.
La famille tient à remercier le personnel du CIUSS de Memphrémagog pour leur compassion et les bons soins que tout le personnel a prodigués au docteur Scalabrini au cours des dernières années.
