1928-2015
Passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on December 15th, 2015 at the age of 87 years. Beloved husband of 64 years to Muriel (nee Quail). Loving and devoted father of Nancy Deane (Tom), Mary Miller (Michael), Patrick (Glenda), Kevin, Elizabeth Walker (Bob) and Melanie Agnew (Barry). Loving ''Papa'' of 18 grandchildren: Emily (Patrick), Adam, Andrew (Janis), Timothy (Shannon), Kyle (Justine), Brianna (Bryce), Liam, Kelvin, Connor, Meghan, Emma, Jared, Sarah, Braeden, Lauren, James, Brennah and proud ''Great Papa'' to Baylee, Dean, Rylan & Bennett. Survived by his brother Garry O'Brien (Cheryl) and nephew Craig of Grand Bend, Ontario. Also survived by his sister-in-law Patricia Quail (late Howard) of Monkland, Ontario. Dear son of the late Alec and Gladys (McDonald) O'Brien. Predeceased by his brother Kenneth, and granddaughter Leigha Walker. Lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews.
What started as a summer job with Domtar Pulp and Paper turned into a lifelong career. He moved his family to Pointe-Claire in 1964 to take a position at the head office and retired as VP of Pulp Sales after 42 years with the company. Dad's love of family and sense of humour is something we will cherish always. The family would like to thank the staff of the Lakeshore General Hospital as well as his caregivers on the 3rd floor of the Symphony for their support and compassion. Visitation will be at Rideau Funeral Home, 4275 boul. des Sources, Dollard-des-Ormeaux, H9B 2A6, 514-685-3344, on Sunday, December 20 from 2 to 5 pm and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral Service will be held at St. John Fisher Church, 120 Summerhill, Pointe-Claire, H9E 2L7, on Monday, December 21 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Lakeshore General Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
