Leslie Peto of Montreal entered into rest after a lengthy struggle on January 23rd, at the Montreal General Hospital. Leslie, who was born June 8, 1927 in Hungary to Imre and Margaret (Szor) came with his family to Canada in 1930. He married Elizabeth (Betty) Szilagyi in 1950. His early years were spent in Timmins, Ontario. His family then moved to Montreal. After being a merchant sailor and spending a short time in the arctic working on the early warning radar system, he obtained a job in Montreal, with Molson's Brewery, where he had a lengthy career until his retirement 25 years ago.
He enjoyed outdoor life and built a cottage where he, his family and friends spent many a warm summers day. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 61 years, his children David, Kathleen (Dan), James, Carolyn (Leslie) and grandchildren Lindsay, Courtney, Jeffrey, Andrew, Renata, Graeme, Nicole, Gavin, Cassandra and Samantha and great grandchildren Angel and Logan. He will also be mourned by his sisters Margaret Taussig and Sarah Vass (Imre) and many more relatives and dear friends. Predeceased by his parents and brother Nicholas.
His wife and family greatly appreciated the excellent care Leslie received from the CLSC as well as the Palliative Care Unit on the tenth floor of the Montreal General Hospital.
Visitation will be at Magnus Poirier funeral complex, 6825 East Sherbrooke street, Montreal on Thursday January 26th, 2012 from 2 pm to 5 pm and 7pm to 9 pm and on Friday January 27th, 2012 from 1 pm to 3 pm.
Funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday January 27th, 2012 at 3 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Palliative Care Unit at the Montreal General Hospital (for info: 514 843-1542).
