MCELROY, Lawrence

2021

Granby

Version anglaise seulement

Passed away peacefully on October 4, 2021, at the grand old age of 99.  He will be dearly missed by his dear friend Ola Streeter. Lovingly remembered by daughter Janet Lehn (Alfred). Dear grandfather to Craig (Danielle), Shawn (Lisa) and Carrie (Sarah), and proud great-grandfather to Charlotte, Emmeline, and Adaline. Lawrence is survived by his younger sister Irene Poulin (Roland 1975). He was a caring uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his devoted wife of 58 years Jean Hayes McElroy, son Brian, grandson Bruce, brother Earl (Mary), Sister Vivian Bockus (Ken), sister-in-law Heather White (Mac), and parents Sydney and Carrie.

Lawrence was a quiet man who had a great love and knowledge for cars. He proudly ran a gas station and garage in South Stukely for many years. As a young man, he was known for his expertise when it came to sugaring time. His family relied on him to cook the maple syrup through the night, till it was just right, and as a grandfather he shared this skill with his grandchildren.  He enjoyed time spent with family, as well as going to local car shows, and getting on the square dance floor with Jean. He will be remembered for his easy going nature, and by his 1953 Buick, which the family still takes out for a spin on nice summer afternoons.

Cremation took place in Ottawa at Kelly’s Funeral Home.

Due to the present circumstances, the family will receive visitors in rotation from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 14th, at the Bessette Funeral Home, 5034 Rue Foster, Waterloo, QC J0E 2N0. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel, followed by the internment at the Duboyce Cemetery in West Bolton, Quebec.
