Born in Hove,Sussex, England, on December 27, 1920, she died on July 13, 2011, after a brief illness. She worked as a medical secretary to Canadian military forces during the war. She survived the German bombings of southern England and was part of the Home Guard, which was responsible for extinguishing fires and helping out after the bombings. In 1978, Joyce and Leslie retired to the English coast in Sussex, England, where they both enjoyed gardening and traveling around the countryside. After Leslie passed away in 1984, Joyce stayed on to be with her mother. She enjoyed gardening, swimming in the English Channel, reading and spending time with friends and family, particularly Lynette, Donna, and Douglas, and her grandsons. During the 1990s, she developed a close friendship with Frederick French, until his death in 2002. In April 2009, she returned to Canada to live with her son Charles and his wife Sylvia in Laval, where she was happy to be closer to her Canadian and American families.
