Peacefully, with his family at his side, in Beaconsfield, Quebec, on 1 September 2011, in his 80th year. Beloved husband for 54 years of Evelyn (MacKenzie). Loving father of Judy (Jeff), Moira (Paul), David (Christina) and Catherine. Cherished Poppy of Christina (Christopher), Lesley, David, Jacob, Samuel, Benjamin and Alexandra, and great-Poppy of Sidney. Dear brother of George (Lois) and brother-in-law of Arabel (the late Mike), Earl and Carol (Ross). Loved by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents George and Agnes. Born in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, John was a gentleman known for his integrity, his quiet sense of humour, and his devotion to family, friends and church. He will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. John’s family is very grateful to the staff at the Manoir Beaconsfield for their loving care. Visitation will be held at the Rideau Funeral Home, 4275 Sources Boulevard, Dollard-Des- Ormeaux, Quebec, on 4 September 2011 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A funeral service will take place at Briarwood Presbyterian Church, 70 Beaconsfield Boulevard, Beaconsfield, Quebec on 5 September at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, or the Canadian Diabetes Association, or the Briarwood Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund would be appreciated.
