Sister Irene died in the early morning of June 25th, 2011, at St. Joseph Pavilion, St. Laurent, Montreal, in her 98th year, and 80th year in religious life. She is the daughter of the late Charles Larkins and Clara Thompson, and was pre-deceased by all of her siblings: sisters Kathleen Miller, Marie Willoughby, Ethel Dixon and Lucille Barker, and brothers Larry and George Flake, Francis, Thomas and Lansing Larkins.
She is mourned by her Sisters and Associates in Holy Cross, by her numerous nieces and nephews and dear friends.
Sister's love for children endeared her to them during her many years of teaching primary grades at Saint Gabriel's, Montreal, and in her beloved Clayton, N.Y., near where she was born. After retiring from teaching, Sister was a generous volunteer at St. Mary's Hospital, Montreal.
Visitation: Tuesday, June 28th, beginning at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Pavilion, 900 Cote Vertu Blvd., St Laurent, Montreal, prayer at 10:30 with funeral at 2 p.m. in the chapel. Donations to the Sisters of Holy Cross Mission Fund would be appreciated.
