WHATLEY, DONALD

2008

SHERBROOKE

WHATLEY, Donald Charles (May 13, 1920 – June 10, 2008) passed away at the CHU in Fleurimont due to complications resulting from a fractured hip. Predeceased by his cherished wife of 62 years, Mary Ellen Wallace of Kingsbury, he leaves to mourn his sons Douglas, Steven, and Robert, grandchildren Jonathan, Daryl, Laura, and Alex, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other beloved family members.
The son of Robert Whatley and Alice Butcher, Don was born in Sherbrooke and had one older brother, the late Gordon. His 47-year career at the Ingersoll-Rand company saw him rise from working in the mailroom to being in charge of the production facilities. During the Second World War, he volunteered for the RCAF and saw active duty as a wireless operator on bomber flight crews. He took part in Canada's radar defence program after his return to civilian life. Through the years he was involved in such organizations as the Boy Scouts, Plymouth-Trinity United Church, and The Sherbrooke Snowshoe Club.
Friends and family will miss his positive attitude, sense of humour, industriousness, and humility.
Respecting Don's wishes, there will be no visitation. A graveside service will take place at St. Andrew's cemetery in Melbourne, Quebec Saturday June 28th at 3pm.
All are welcome.
